Sci-Tech SUPARCO hosts UN-Pakistan conference on space tech for early warning

SUPARCO has opened a five-day international conference on using space technology for early warning, climate action and disaster risk assessment, running from October 27 to 31.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan wants to harness space technology, satellite monitoring and artificial intelligence to strengthen early warning systems, noting that the 2022 floods caused direct losses of about 2.2 per cent of GDP.
Around 250 participants from 20 countries are attending, with partners including UNOOSA, ITU and WFP. A training course will follow at the COMSTECH Secretariat from November 2 to 6.
