Sindh UN’s FAO says Sindh water management has grown complex, calls for proper water accounts

A study by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization on water and land accounting in Sindh says the province has moved away from fixed seasonal canal allocations towards a system shaped by actual water availability and access, making management more complicated.
The report points to gaps between official crop data and irrigation department figures, and notes that water drawn from lakes and local storage is not captured in allocation records. It recommends that the Sindh government take stock of all water sources and keep regular sector-wise provincial water accounts.
